The off-focus areas of an images are referred to by the name Bokeh, this can vary depending on the lenses and camera used from harsh to soft variants. I was experimenting with this on my camera and some Christmas tree lights in my house. Many shots and trials later I kept this as part of a collection presenting work that portrayed a look or style less than an object or subject itself.
